Dynamic spirit-filled presenters:
Rev. Kellie V. Hayes, Assistant Pastor,
Hunter Memorial AME Church. Rev. Hayes received
her Masters of Theological Studies with an emphasis in
Systematic Theology, from Wesley Theological Seminary in
Washington, D.C. in May of 1997. Her Master’s thesis was
entitled “African-American Churchwomen: Lifting as We
Climb” A Womanist Perspective of the Necessity of
Women’s Ministry in the African-American Church. Nia
Publishing blessed Rev. Hayes to be a contributing
writer in the Women of Color Study Bible. Her article
entitled “Bumping into Omnipotence” is in the study
notes of the Old Testament book of Job. Prior to serving
at Hunter Memorial, Rev. Hayes worked with her husband
to establish New Liberation AME Church. She is a gifted
preacher of the Word who uses innovative approaches to
help the women of God find spiritual renewal.
Rev. Dr. Evalina Huggins, Pastor, Varick AMEZ
Church. Dr. Huggins has over 20 years’
experience in active ministry and has written and
lectured extensively on the Sabbath and the need for
sacred quiet time with the God as a means of restoration
and rejuvenation for continued service. She is a
dynamic, engaging preacher and teacher whose effective
use of humor educates and shares the Word of God. Dr.
Huggins currently works for the Prince George’s County
Health Department where she is a licensed State of
Maryland Counselor. She is active in the NAACP, Southern
Poverty Leadership Council, a member of the National
Assoc. of Female Executives and a member of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc.
Sister Karla Scott, accomplished musician,
psalmist, and instructor. Ms. Scott allows
herself to be used by the spirit as a vessel to
facilitate the praise and worship experience. In his
review of her debut recording JOYRIVER, a collection of
hymns, Stan North of GospelFlava wrote; “her purpose –
praise – is as clear as the tone she uses to deliver
it.” She has shared the platform with notables, such as
Twinkie Clark of the Clark Sisters, Maurette
Brown-Clark, Keith Childress, Israel and New Breed,
Smokey Norful, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Bishop Tudor Bismark
and others. Ms. Scott, a doctoral student in Music at
the University of Maryland, College Park, is director of
the United States Naval Academy Gospel Choir, which
performed chorus vocals with operatic soprano Renee
Fleming and R&B artist, Beyonce at a pre-inaugural event
on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in January 2009.
"I appreciate the planning and vision that went into planning this
[2009] retreat. The opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle to commune with God and sisters was wonderful"
